The Missing Piece
In 2021, we began a new tradition at Casa Bernabé as we are seeing more and more children reunited with their families. We have begun giving children a puzzle piece in a glass jar as a reminder that, no matter how long or short our time together was, they are always a part of something bigger, our Casa Bernabé family and God’s family.
Two young sisters were leaving our campus to be reunited with an aunt after a short 2-month stay with us. As Edgar went to say goodbye to the girls on a Saturday afternoon and give them their puzzle pieces, he asked a simple question.
“What have you received from your time here at Casa Bernabé?”
Without hesitation, one of the young girls answered, “What it means to follow God. I never knew much about Him until I came here.”
This is the heart of our mission at Casa Bernabé—to share God’s love and truth with every child and family we serve. Located just outside Guatemala City, Casa Bernabé supports vulnerable children and families by providing essential care, resources, and spiritual guidance. As believers, we are all part of a puzzle, working together to reflect God’s message to the world. But for that picture to be complete, each of us must bring the unique “piece” we have to offer.
While not everyone is called to adopt or open their homes, each of us is called to stand in the gap for the vulnerable, to bear the burden of the afflicted, and to defend the weak. Children in Guatemala need you to stand up for them now more than ever. Poverty rates are rising, and educational opportunities are declining. Now is the time to act.
